I was introduced to Reiki when I was searching for personal answers. I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for and I only had a vague idea of what I thought would help, but I was personally feeling in the doldrums in that kind of limbo between devil may care and melancholy. I hesitate to say… depressed, because of the stigma surrounding a deep emotion, but I honor the fact that I wasn’t myself. I was me, but not the me that I wanted to be, and I felt like there was an answer for me in energy work.
Like more journey’s my path to Reiki was winding and filled with detours and dead-ends.
Eventually I found a great instructor and mentor who explained Reiki in a way that made sense and was easy.
I’m not going to do that right now, that is, I’m not going to explain the entirety of Reiki to you right this moment, but I will cover some of the basics. Maybe this will help demystify and explain why you are drawn to it, and how you can learn or heal from it.
If you have any questions, call the wellness center, we have a fantastic and talented Reiki Practitioner, she mostly works on Saturday’s but her work is transformational.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is spiritual healing art that has it’s roots in the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Contrary to what many lay people believe, the Reiki Practitioner is the vessel or conduit for the universal life force, they are not the power themselves. That is to say, that a skilled Reiki practitioner will sense their clients energy and intuit where it flows freely, where it is blocked and where it flows too fast. The goal is balance. It is the Reiki practitioners goal to help their client achieve balance.
Are Reiki Practitioners Psychics?
Reiki practitioners are not “channeling” non physical beings and messages from loved ones that have passed, in their service as a Reiki Practitioner they are connecting to the universal life force and completing completing that energetic circuit. Think of it like you’ve blown a fuse, and the reiki practitioner replaces it so that your inner energy can get back into flow. Having said that, it’s important to know that most Reiki Practitioners are drawn to this work because they are very sensitive, intuitive and in many cases psychic. But the practitioner doesn’t need to be psychic to be able to read energy or heal with energy.
How does a Reiki Session works?
Reiki practitioners differ slightly in their methodologies, however, in general they will connect with the universal life force and evaluate your energetic flow by either hovering their hands over your chakra areas, or in some cases laying hands on your head or shoulders. A good Reiki practitioner will be able to sense the blockage as they concentrate on your energetic flow, and a great reiki practitioner will be able to sense issues outside of the chakras that are causing an energetic backup.
How can Reiki Help?
Well, according to Medical News Today :
“Conditions that Reiki has been used to help treat include:
- heart disease
- chronic pain
- neurodegenerative disorders
- Crohn’s disease
- fatigue syndromes”
In my mind it’s important to understand that Reiki is about providing relief. Stepping outside of and into relief. Whether that is relief from physical pain or emotional pain, Reiki helps to unlock the pent up aspects of energy and send the excess energy out and away, while allowing just the right amount to continue to circulate.
